About

About this project: the 3D reconstruction of the Osireion and the methodology behind it.

About this Project

This website is a private research project dedicated to the documentation and 3D reconstruction of the Osireion at Abydos, Egypt. It was created by an architect with a professional background in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and a long-standing interest in ancient Egyptian architecture.

The 3D Reconstruction

The reconstruction was created in Archicad using the Historic Building Information Modelling (HBIM) methodology. The main source is Henri Frankfort’s excavation report The Cenotaph of Seti I at Abydos (Egypt Exploration Society, 1933), supplemented by the survey drawings from the AEGARON project at UCLA and comparative archaeological literature, numerous photographs and videos, as well as a 3D tour on mused.com that is no longer available online.

The model presents a hypothesis regarding the monument’s original appearance during the reign of Seti I. Where the archaeological evidence is ambiguous, conservative interpretations have been adopted. The model does not claim to be definitive.

Sources

The site includes both peer-reviewed academic research and — clearly labelled — a selection of independent perspectives. The latter are included to illustrate the diversity of interpretations surrounding the Osireion, and readers are encouraged to approach them with critical thinking. The primary aim remains to offer accurate, evidence-based information.
